The process
- Recruiter screening (30-60m): motivation, purpose, curiosity, transferable skills, values.
- Hiring manager: the role and team; assesses collaboration, technical skills, proactivity.
- Technical: varies by role (business case, portfolio presentation, or coding task). They brief you in advance so you can prepare.
- Team interview: your future colleagues, culture and dynamics.
- Bar raiser (an interviewer from another team): an impartial read on ability and alignment with the "Founder’s Mentality · We Care · Team First" values. ~5 interviews on average.
What they ask
- Technical: business case / portfolio / coding task (told in advance).
- Behavioral with STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result).
- Values alignment: Founder’s Mentality, We Care, Team First.
How they behave
Heavy weight on motivation, values and "founder’s mentality" beyond the technical; the bar raiser gives an impartial read. They assess how you think and collaborate, not just the solution.
How to prepare
- Study SumUp’s culture and values (tested via the bar raiser).
- STAR stories with concrete examples of results and ownership.
- Tailor your CV to the role; come ready for the announced technical stage.
